Can I bring my dog?
The 35 acre site is an ideal environment for walking your dog. We do allow one dog per boat but unfortunately cannot allow hunting dogs such as Labradors or Spaniels or other large dogs. We ask visitors to control their dogs and not allow them into the water, on the furniture or beds and not to bark at other visitors or disturb the fishing. During the spring there are often breeding and nesting birds on the lake who do not take kindly to dogs.

Please ask us first if you or any of your party intend on bringing a dog.

What type of fishing do you offer?
The lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout. Clouded Yellow and Painted Lady offer the best fishing aspects. We do not supply equipment or licences although these are easily sourced locally. We welcome fishermen of all ability from the novice with a worm on a hook to the skilled fly fisherman. We encourage you to keep your catch as the fish are very tasty on the barbecue or if you prefer, you can borrow our smoker and smoke the fish yourselves. If you are returning fish to the lake, please handle the fish with respect and remove the hook with care. We can give you advice on how to do this if you are unsure. Rainbow Trout are not as robust as coarse fish and must be treated accordingly.

All fishing must be with barbless hooks.

Is fishing included in the price?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of fish you catch – within reason!

Is the fishing exclusive?
Each boat has it’s own exclusive area from which to fish. Blagdon Water is not open to the public.

Is there heating on board the boats?
All three of our boats have wood burning stoves on board. We supply you with firewood and will help you get started if you are unfamiliar with how to operate a wood burner. Firewood is included in the rental rate.

What type of cooking is available?
The boats all have full sized domestic gas cookers with grill, oven and four ring burners.

Is there a fridge/freezer?
There is a normal domestic fridge but no freezer.

What kitchen utensils are there?
The galley is fully equipped with all that you will need for a weeks holiday, unless you are planning on making cakes or doing much baking! There is no microwave or dishwasher although some have commented that washing up actually became a pleasure when done looking out over the water.

Is there a TV?
No. We are delighted to be able to offer you a TV free holiday. Many visitors have commented on how much they have enjoyed rediscovering the radio, playing cards, doing jigsaws and generally spending time together. There is a stereo on board with facility for an ipod and there are speakers throughout the boat.

How are the boats powered?
Electrical power comes predominantly from the solar panels which provide electricity for the lighting, stereo, fridge, electric loos and water pump out systems for the kitchen sink and showers. There is a mains back up system which keeps the batteries topped up when sunlight is in short supply.

Can I charge my phone/laptop?
Yes. There is a mains socket on the shore or in the boat house where you can plug in a laptop and charge batteries. You can also use a hair dryer. There are no mains sockets on the boat however.

Can we come for less than a week?
Yes. We do offer short breaks out of peak season. The rate for short breaks is worked out as a 3 day weekend break or 4 day mid week break at 65% of the weekly rate. If you would like to be notified regarding any last minute opportunities please let us know. We do occasionally have late cancellations.

How far are you from local shops/the coast?
We are 2 miles outside Holsworthy, a small, rural, market town. There is a local butcher, greengrocer, health food shop, chemist, bakery, cheese shop etc in the town. Waitrose and a small Co-Op provide any supermarket shopping you may need. There is a farmers market every Wednesday with fishmongers, fruit and vegetable stalls and other local produce. There are also several farm shops within easy distance.

The North Cornwall coast is about 10 miles away. Bude is the closest seaside resort. There is a large Morrisons supermarket here.

Can we swim in the lake or bring inflatable to use on the lake?
Unfortunately we do not allow swimming in the lake or the use of inflatables. This is due to insurance restrictions and also to ensure that all visitors and the wildlife maintain their own privacy.
